WHAT MY
CLIENTS SAY
"My son Blake was
diagnosed with ADHD, bipolar disorder, and Asberger's syndrome
during his first and second grade years. His mood swings and
apparent disconcern for the feelings of others and socially awkward
behavior had taken our family to the point that we couldn't eat out
at a restaurant, go out for social events with friends, go on family
vacations without many emotionally draining episodes, and we could
not get him to do his homework. We had people tell us he just
needed more discipline, but we knew there was something different
going on with him that our other two kids didn't have to deal with.
We then also found out in second grade that he had dyslexia. We
went to psychologists, psychiatrists, and counselors, and Blake was
put on this medication and that medication. Most of the medications
caused side effects and then we would have to add on more
medications to deal with the side effects. It was an endless
cycle. By the time we took him to neurofeedback at The Better
Brain, he was taking four medications twice a day. He hated taking
them, so we had to struggle daily. He was in treatment at The
Better Brain for about 3-4 months when we could start to decrease
his medications, and by the time he had been in treatment for 6
months he was off all medications, had a pretty stable mood with
only occasional problems, and was doing much better in school. He
had a total of around 100 treatments over 18 months of time and by
then he was still completely medication free and was doing great in
school and his social life was better than it had ever been. He is
now finishing 6th grade and has all A's and B's and is trying for
straight A's. He is very motivated in school and in church, and I
would consider him to be a perfectly normal 12 year old boy. I am
so grateful to for the 180 degree turn around that neurofeedback has
given him. He will now be able to go through life without being
medication dependent and without uncontrollable mood swings. He now
has a normal adolescence and adulthood awaiting him." (A grateful
Dad)
"A
Cure Without Medication - Doctors could not make him better because they could
not find the right diagnosis. They kept saying that he was “ADHD” so they kept
giving him medicine. This medicine made him a Zombie, that medicine had bad
side effects, the third medicine just did not work. He was not “ADHD”. What
could be wrong with him? According to Society, ALL kids with hyperness and
inability to concentrate are ADHD. Why not this child?
My
son was one of the many children in the world who was given the standard
diagnosis. Doctors would listen to only some of the symptoms. Had they heard
me when I said that standard noises hurt his ears, he said sentences out of
sequence, and he could not verbalize feelings, they would have seen that he did
not have ADHD. My son had other issues…. (more)
"My son has always
had ADD-Inattentive symptoms. He missed most verbal instructions from
his teachers. He couldn't remember important things like when homework
was due or where he left his coat. He constantly lost things; one year
in elementary school, he lost SEVEN coats. We were against drugs, so I
tried several alternatives: nutritional counseling, vitamins, allergy
desensitization. All of these helped his general health, but his brain
was still "sleepy". His inattention problems made Middle School very
difficult for him. He missed many assignment due dates and got so far
behind, that he was working for four and five hours per night to catch
up. We started NFT during the first semester of Middle School. By the
end of the year, my son was able to organize his work, remember his
assignments and was getting As and Bs in Pre-AP classes. Neuro-feedback
Therapy was the final key to unlocking my son's potential. Muggs, thank
you so much for all you did for my boy!" (Mother of a 13 year old)
I am writing this to
inform any one that has had an experience like I did with my daughter.
My child was diagnosed with ADHD when she was in the 3rd grade which was
10 years ago. (She repeated the 3rd grade because of this situation).
Ten years ago their was not a lot of studies and information on ADHD.
So our route was to medicate her with Adderall that helped her to
achieve well socially and academically. We were all happy well, that is
for a while. When she reached the 11th grade her medication had reached
a large dosage (30mg twice a day of Adderall). One day she just hit the
wall. Had a total melt down and crashed. At this point I had not even
heard of neurofeedback. (more)
“I was
trying to raise my family while experiencing three panic attacks each day,
having to take Xanax just to get by. How clear headed I feel without medication
---- and best of all, I can be there for my family.”
(45 year old, female,
anxiety and depression)
“I was on
so many drugs (Ritalin, Wellbutrin, Trileptal). I had no friends and had
horrible behavior in school. None of those are true now. I feel happy for the
first time since I was little.”
(14-
year-old male, ADHD and bipolar)
My son will never have to
be labeled as ADHD by the school district. He is in second grade and there has
been no talk of drugs. He was trained in his kindergarten year
(Father of a seven-year old)
Meds are no longer a part
of our morning rituals at home. My son’s focus and ability to concentrate have
improved greatly. For the first time in years I enjoyed the parent-teacher
conference especially when one teacher said, “your son has ADD?”
(Mother of fifth grade
boy)
We
initially started treatment because our daughter had been diagnosed with
epilepsy the year before and medication was barely keeping the seizures under
control. It was also explained to us that neurofeedback would treat the ADHD and
associated depression and anxiety that we’d dealt with for years. Within 20
sessions, we saw that she had become the happy and confident daughter that we
knew we were supposed to have! As for the seizures, despite being on two
medication, our daughter has always had a startle reflex jerks and seizures in
her sleep. They are both gone! We are successfully weaning her off of Straterra
because her ADHD symptoms are diminishing so much. We will also be weaning her
off the seizure medication. It is fun to her my daughter talk about all the
friends she now has and see the happiness in her.

WHAT DOCTORS
SAY
"In my experience with EEG Biofeedback and ADD,
many people are able to improve their reading skills and decrease their need for
medication. Also, EEG biofeedback has helped to decrease impulsivity and
aggressiveness. It is a powerful tool, in part because the patient becomes part
of the treatment process by taking more control over his own physiological
processes."
Daniel Amen, M.D.
"Among the newer approaches to managing ADD, the most exciting is a learning
process called neurofeedback. It empowers a person to shift the way he pays
attention. After more than twenty-five years of research in university labs,
neurofeedback has become more widely available. This is a pleasing development,
because neurofeedback has no negative side effects." (Page 205)
William Sears, M.D. The A.D.D. Book
"In my own practice, I’ve used neurofeedback in a comprehensive medical
treatment program to help more than 1,000 patients with attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder. When combined with supportive therapies such as family
counseling and educational therapy, EEG neurofeedback is the most effective
treatment available. Critics of EEG neurofeedback hold this treatment to more
rigid standards than drug treatments. Yet unlike drugs, neurofeedback is
benign."
David F. Velkoff, M.D. Medical Director,
Drake Institute of Behavioral Medicine, Los Angeles
Physician’s Weekly POINT/COUNTERPOINT, July 13, 1998 Vol. XV, No. 26
"Used selectively for patients, it is a very good tool. For psychiatry, this is
an area to look into. Not everyone gets better with Prozac, or other drugs. This
is a biological intervention that gets the brain firing. I’ve only used
Neurofeedback on a limited basis so far, I’ve gotten good results in my private
practice with depression. I’ve also gotten good results with some children we
have used it for. I would like to do more with it."
Terry Cook, Psychiatrist, New South Wales, Australia
"In my 38 years of practice, I have never seen any treatment that comes close to
producing the results that Neurofeedback offers . . . I have seen results
achieved in days and weeks that previously took months and years to achieve,
using the best methods available to us."
Jack Woodward, M.D, Board Certified Psychiatrist
"This is one of the broad reach of tools available, and it’s a good tool. Like
any tool, it doesn’t work for everyone, but it does benefit most people. It
accelerates symptom removal and the development of healthy
self-regulation—meaning it helps the patient’s own body make the proper
adjustments."
